Marianna, FL to Quincy, FL

4/27/18 This morning was a beautiful 58 degrees when we left Marianna heading towards Quincy.  Half of the ladies decided to take a detour to the Florida Caverns State Park. We rode an extra 10 miles to see the amazing caves. Our tour began at 9:00 and was 45 minutes long. I am glad I took the time to see this. The Other half of the group took a turn at Chattahoochee and rode a half mile to cross the Georgia state line. After leaving the park it seemed like the miles were going by slow even with a slight tailwind. The temperature rose to 75 degrees but at times felt warmer than that. We had missed the first SAG because of the tour so our next SAG would be at 36 miles but really 46 miles for us that went to the caves. It was too long so we stopped at a convenience store in the town of Sneads. I bought a protein shake and ate the banana that I had stashed in my jersey pocket.  We left and made it past Chattahoochee when the SAG driver caught up to us. We filled our waters an...

Crestview, FL to Marianna, FL

4/26/18 Today I rode my last 90 miler for this tour. The next 6 rides will all be less than that. It was such a great ride today. I would never have thought that 91 miles would be as easy as it was today.  Most of those miles were on US-90 E. The road was smooth and had a clean, wide shoulder. The 2000 ft of climb wasn't bad. We had a tail/cross wind that help push me down the road at an average of 15.5 mph. I left Crestview at 6:45 and got into Marianna at 1:20.   Our SAG stops were at 19, 41, 58 and 76 miles. I was ahead of the SAG so I didn't see the last SAG stop. What I use to fuel a 90 mile ride is a little different now then at the beginning. When we were climbing out west I ate way more calories to fuel my ride. Today I ate scrambled eggs, yogurt and coffee with protein in it for breakfast. At the first SAG I had a kiwi and an organic energy bar. At the second SAG I had watermelon, grapes, seasoned popcorn and 2 fig newtons. At the third SAG I had a cup of...

Pensacola, FL to Crestview, FL

4/25/18 We left the Sole' Hotel in downtown Pensacola at 7:45 this morning. The Roads were quite busy for the first 20 miles. We traveled along the coast until we crossed 3 bridges in 3 miles at mile 13. We then started to head inland. Our first SAG stop was in the town of Pace at almost 20 miles. At mile 26 we turn off of the streets to the Blackwater Heritage State Trail.  It was a pleasant bike trail that went further than the 7 miles we got to ride. We then turn on to some country roads. At mile 41 I stopped to take a picture of Juniper Creek. As I was standing on the bridge a man pulls up beside me on a three wheeled motorcycle.  His name was Tom and he was from Pace, FL. After visiting for about 15 minutes he told me that the place to get the best meal is at Gator's in Baker, FL. and it only costs $8! The people I have met on this Journey have all been nice, genuine people like Tom that are always willing to help. I arrived at the hotel at 12:30, showered and went to ...
