The Bike

Image
My bike is a 2012 Trek Madone 6.5. I have named it Rudy. The name comes from the movie Rudy. I love when the team chants "Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!" towards the end of the movie.  It is quite inspirational! I always chant that to myself as I am trying to make it up a big climb. It encourages me to keep trying! Never stop trying! This year I changed my cassette out from a 11-28 to a 12-30 to help me get up the hills on RAGBRAI.  It did the trick. I am now changing the cassette to an 11-34 to give me an easier gear to get over some of the passes we will encounter.  It will allow me to spin more instead of cranking so hard on the pedals.  I also am upgrading my Di2 10 gears to 11's. I have made arrangements for my bike to be disassembled and boxed up for shipping by The Spoke Shop in Billings.  The bike will be mailed to Bernie's Bike Shop in San Diego, CA where it will be assembled and ready for me to pickup on March 5th. Yikes!!! March 5th is only 39 days away! Got

December Training

Wow!!! We are 9 weeks out from the beginning of the ride! December's training ended with 679 miles (621 indoor and 58 outside). I also had 9 days of cross training.  I increased my ride mileage to 30-50 miles per ride. I also rode 50+ miles on 3 consecutive days. My legs are feeling pretty good right now for the most part. Some days they feel weak to start but get stronger as the training ride continues. I am hoping to increase my training to 200 miles a week by the end of January. I am riding indoor on an Elite Qubo B+ smart trainer.  The app I use is Zwift. It is pretty neat and keeps you from getting bored on the trainer. The Qubo communicates with the app through bluetooth and allows for resistance as if you are climbing.  I use the app on my Iphone and then save it to Strava.  Zwift has been a lifesaver! It has enhanced my training.  I cannot imagine riding that much just watching TV.  I am so glad that I kept my first road bike Leonardo.  This way it is alw
