Perry, FL to High Springs, FL

Image
4/30/18 It was 60 degrees at 7:20 this morning when we left the hotel in Perry. We rode 19 miles to the first SAG stop. The roads were smooth with little traffic but the headwind we fought most the day was a nuisance. The ditches were filled with wild flowers and the fields filled with livestock or crops. Our second SAG was at 40 miles. At 45 miles we rode on the Suwannee River Greenway bike path. It was a nice protection from the headwind for the 7 miles we were on it. At mile 58 we stopped for an energy boost at a convenience store.  Mine was a coke. We then entered the Ichetucknee Springs Park. We walked down to see the Blue Hole.  The water was beautiful and clear. As we left the park our third SAG stop was waiting for us.  We filled our water bottles and headed down the road toward High Springs to finish off our 76 mile day.  When we got to town we went across the street from the motel to eat at The Diner.  The food was very good. When I checked into the High Springs Country Inn

Crawfordville, FL to Perry FL

4/29/18 We had a pleasant surprise this morning of riding the first 9 miles out of Crawfordville on a brand new bike path. What a great way to start our 52 mile ride to Perry. After the bike path we rode on the same highway all the way to Perry. Nice smooth road with a good shoulder and little traffic. We had a SAG stop at 20 miles. At the 40 mile SAG stop Shelli and I were ahead of it. As we rode into Perry my odometer hit 3000 miles for the trip. It is hard to believe that I have pedaled that far in the last 53 days. Crazy!  I left this morning at 7:45 and got into Perry right before 11:00. Shelli and I went to eat lunch at Burger King. We took our bikes inside just like we have all the way across. After we got our food and were eating the manager asked us to put the bikes outside. We weren't going to leave them outside unattended so we left. I guess "You can't have it your way " at Burger King 🤣 3 Days left!  Hit 3000 miles pulling into Perry, FL  Mo

Quincy, FL to Crawfordville, FL

4/28/18 We left Quincy this morning at 7:40. It was 55 degrees with a slight tailwind.  We rode down the road at a good pace and stopped at our first SAG stop at 13 miles.  At 18 miles we entered the Apalachiola National Forest. They were conducting some controlled burns which made it smokey as we rode. At 34 miles we went off route to go to the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park. This was well worth the extra 11 miles it added to our 48 mile day.  We took a boat tour on the Wakulla River and got to see Manatees, Alligators and many types of birds.  It is a definite stop if you ever come through this way.  After the tour we all ate lunch in the Lodge Restaurant. When we left to head to Crawfordville we had 18 miles to ride. The temperature was in the low 80's when I pulled into the Magnuson Hotel parking lot right before 3:00. we have been so fortunate with the weather this year. Last year the temperature was 20 degrees hotter. Only 4 more days until we complete our journ
