Marianna, FL to Quincy, FL
4/27/18
This morning was a beautiful 58 degrees when we left Marianna heading towards Quincy. Half of the ladies decided to take a detour to the Florida Caverns State Park. We rode an extra 10 miles to see the amazing caves. Our tour began at 9:00 and was 45 minutes long. I am glad I took the time to see this. The Other half of the group took a turn at Chattahoochee and rode a half mile to cross the Georgia state line.
After leaving the park it seemed like the miles were going by slow even with a slight tailwind. The temperature rose to 75 degrees but at times felt warmer than that. We had missed the first SAG because of the tour so our next SAG would be at 36 miles but really 46 miles for us that went to the caves. It was too long so we stopped at a convenience store in the town of Sneads. I bought a protein shake and ate the banana that I had stashed in my jersey pocket. We left and made it past Chattahoochee when the SAG driver caught up to us. We filled our waters and ate some snacks and got on the road again. We had 20 more miles to go. When we got to Quincy I stopped in at a Walgreens to pick up batteries and allergy meds. We arrived at the hotel shortly after 2:00 which was now 3:00 because we entered Eastern Time Zone when we crossed the Apalachicola River.
I had been having some chain issues with my bike. I was trying to just baby it to the finish but a little mishap of falling over while one foot was still clipped in helped make the decision to take it to the bike shop. My derailleur hanger was slightly off and a little loose. Rudy should be ready now to get me to the Atlantic Ocean!
Only 5 days to go!
Total Miles: 2858
Total Flats: 4
Ruined Tires: 1
