Silsbee, TX to Lake Charles, LA

4/14/18

Last night we stayed in a motel that was quite questionable. I decided to just go with the experience. At 11:24 I awoke to someone trying to get into my room.  Luckily I had locked the dead bolt.  I looked through the peep hole. It was two men.  They tried to unlock the door five times. Finally they knocked and I told then the room was occupied. They apologized and moved on.  The front desk had rented our room to them too. Needless to say, I had a hard time going back to sleep.
This morning we all prepared for rain again. We left Silsbee at 7:45. It was 63 degrees and drizzling.  We had 77 miles to ride today. The route was mostly flat with many bridges to cross. We had SAG stops at 20, 40 and 60 miles. At mile 68 we were in a traffic line waiting to cross a draw bridge.  I would have sat there and waited behind the cars but Shelli showed me some "city riding" and got us through before any of the cars even moved. We got rained on for the last 6 miles to the hotel.  Just a light rain though.
I added an air horn to my bike to scare off the dogs that come running after me on the road.  The guides warned us that there will be a lot of them in Louisiana.  Today there were eight of them.
I have been wanting a donut since San Diego and today I finally stopped at a drive thru donut shop.  My donut was delicious!
We have left Texas!!!! It was a long 20 days of riding across it! We are now in Louisiana!  I can't wait for some Cajun food!
Tonight we celebrated entering a new state by having margaritas! Trudy, Shelli and I went to find supplies for the Margaritas and got caught in the rain. A young man and his girlfriend not only gave us a ride to Walmart but waited for us to shop and gave us a ride back. Such nice young people! Thank you Cory and Tiffany!
