Camp Wood, TX to Vanderpool, TX
4/4/18
The morning started out feeling chillier than expected. It was 49 degrees but we had a 10-20 mph wind. We left the motel heading right into the wind. It was slow going because we were right on to an incline. At 8 miles we started the first tough climb for 3 miles. I was going slow but my legs weren't burning. I actually felt strong. We had a SAG stop at mile 11. At mile 16 we had a steep descent and then rode into the town of Leakey. We were all cold so we stopped to have something warm to drink at the Mill Creek cafe.
We had another tough 2 mile climb at mile 27 and another descent that took us in to our 3rd climb of the day. As we descended in to Vanderpool, TX we stopped at the Country Store which was 2.5 miles from Fox Fire Cabins where we are staying. It was noon so we decided to have lunch.
The Lost Maples Winery was on our way to the cabins so we stopped for a wine tasting. Afterwards we rode one more mile to the cabins.
Today's 39 mile ride was not bad even with all the climb and headwinds. The views were beautiful!
Total Miles: 1523
Flats: 3
Ruined Tires: 1
