Bogalusa, LA to Wiggins, MS

4/20/18

The morning started out at a chilly 45 degrees. We ate breakfast in the motel parking lot and then left at 7:35. We rode on Highway LA 10 which had heavy traffic and little shoulder. Luckily we were only on it for 7 miles.
The Mississippi State line was only 4 miles into our day. We all stopped to take pictures. We turned off of the busy highway on to some country roads. Most were light to no traffic. The chasing dogs were out in full force today. Most scared off easily with a "Go Home!" or an air horn screech but others hung on barking and chasing you down the road until you out ran them.
By the first SAG stop at 23 miles it was warming up.  I had to take a layer off. The flat roads had turned into hills. The type that have some flat road in between so you don't get any run to make it up the next hill. At mile 37 we had a detour that for us who had gone past the sign on the initial route added 12 more miles. The day ended up being 72 miles instead of 60. We arrived at the hotel at 2:00.
Everyone has a bad day every once in a while. Today was mine. My quads hurt and wouldn't perform today and we had a detour that added 12 more miles to our route. Mentally the added miles gets to me. I have myself prepared for what I'm to be riding and when something added gets thrown in it throws me off.  Maybe I don't like change....well NOT maybe.  I DON'T like change. The margarita celebration for entering a new state was a welcomed distraction for the mood I was in.

  1. Last Day in Mississippi. Enjoy the true South for a final day before hitting sunny Florida. I know the feeling of expecting a certain number of miles and then getting stuck with a bunch more. No worries, tomorrow is a new day with a great ride ahead of you.

  2. Oops, forgot you had a couple of days in Alabama. Your last day off in AL will be a great place.
