Safford, AZ to Lordsburg, NM
Today started on a bad note. I had a cut in my rear tire so I changed it before breakfast. As I was putting my rear wheel back on, my quick release on the skewer fell apart. I asked Anna, one of the guides, to help me with it. We couldn't get it fixed. Anna was kind enough to lend me hers so I could get on the road. I left after 8 which was a half hour after everyone else.
Today was 77 miles with a headwind. There was some climb for about 30 miles and a little more after that and then it flatten out. At mile 46 we entered our third state New Mexico! Towards the end of the ride, maybe the last 17 miles, I really had to listen to my body. I needed to conserve energy so that I could make it in. It was just one of those days that zapped my energy. I arrived at Lordsburg shortly before 3 which was actually shortly before 4 because we had crossed into Mountain Time Zone.
We enjoyed margaritas again for entering a new state, Emily made a delicious supper and then I was ready for bed. Tomorrow we cross the Continental Divide!
Total Miles: 728
Flats: 2
Ruined Tires: 1
