Mesa, AZ to Tonto Basin, AZ

Most people I have talked to about this ride know that I have a few days that scare me.  Well today was one of those days.  The combination of  84.5 miles and 7200+ ft of climb seemed overwhelming to me.  Especially with tired legs.  I am happy to say that I conquered that fear. I made it!!! There were some difficulties though.
The morning started out a beautiful 49 degrees. We left the hotel at 7:00. We rode for 20 flat miles through Mesa. At mile 25 I got a flat on my rear tire. I had run over some glass on the side of the road.  I changed it and was on my way to the SAG stop at mile 27.5.  I fully pumped my tire and was on the road climbing again. At mile 30 I started having mechanical difficulties. I babied my bike in to the next SAG stop at mile 38. After a little over an hour I was on the climb again.   I was so slow. After about 5000 ft of climb we had a 4 mile 7% descent. Then more climbing with a 2 mile 6% descent following. We were on interstate for a good portion of the day. We turned on to highway 188 to find a head wind. We only had 15 miles left but they seemed long. I got in to Tonto Basin at 3:50.
I am exhausted after today's ride but have a feeling of accomplishment!
