Jacumba, CA to Brawley, CA
Today was a great ride! We got the reward today for all that climbing yesterday. A few miles out of Jacumba, CA we had a 10 mile descent most of which was at 6%. We descended almost 3000 ft. in elevation. I love going down hill but this descent had some cross winds that were scary on a light bike. I still managed to reach 35.5 MPH braking.
When we got to the first SAG stop it looked like we were going to get wet. Shortly after that we got sprinkled on. It wasn't bad at all except for the mud that it left on our bikes.
After the second SAG stop at mile 38 we rode on a 8 mile stretch of road that I would call "The Worst Road In America". There was not one smooth place to ride. It was so full of cracks and pot holes it was almost dangerous to ride on.
Once we got to El Centro we stopped for lunch. The Tamales at Celia's were awesome!
The final 13 miles to Brawley were on a very busy road. The day ended with 68 miles and 764 ft of climb. A comfortable 68 degrees with a nice tailwind made for an unforgettable ride.

Great ride, nothing like a constant 6% grade down to have a nice coasting day. Will have to remember the worst road in America and Celia's.
ReplyDeleteRide strong. Enjoy the rest day tomorrow!
