Blythe, CA to Salome, AZ
We finally left California and crossed the Colorado River into Arizona! The day off yesterday helped the legs recover. We had about 6 miles of flat roads going out of Blythe. We rode a steady incline on Interstate 10 until the first sag stop at 22 miles in Quartzsite, AZ. We stopped at Sweet Darlene's Restaurant a mile and a half down the road. Great pies! I had coconut cream! Yum!
We traveled on Interstate 10 for another 10 miles. The traffic was busy! We then turned off on to highway 60. This road had less traffic. A few miles further, the road became a bumpy mess. I felt like it took me forever to get through this section. We had another gradual climb after Hope, AZ. Water services were scarce in this area.
Once I reached Salome, I looked for Don's Cactus Bar. There is a very old Saguaro cactus there and the bar is very unique inside. Oh, and the margaritas there are very good!
The 62 mile day ended with the team being set up in two different motels. I am staying in the Westward Motel. It is a cute and unique place. Tonight we also get to celebrate crossing in to a new state by wearing our Hawaiian shirts and drinking margaritas!
