Alpine, CA to Jacumba, CA
Today was a tough day! Lots of climbing! The day was a total of 47 miles and 4880 ft of climb. We had to ride on Interstate 8 for about 3 miles all uphill. Our first SAG stop was under the Interstate bridge. We continued to climb! At mile 33 Anna and Emily were in the perfect spot with the SAG van! I really needed some cold water, electrolytes and food. At this turn in the route we had a nice tail wind to bring us in to Jacumba. The last 6 miles were down hill.. My top speed was 36.6 mph. Nothing makes you look forward to the next day's ride more than ending a tough day with a tailwind and a down hill.
Thanks to Trudy and Shelli for waiting for me so I didn't have to ride the Interstate alone and for waiting for me when I was climbing at a turtle's pace.
I left Alpine at 7:50 and arrived in Jacumba at 12:30. It was a beautiful 72 degrees! I got a chance to sit in the hot mineral pool. It felt wonderful!
